BTR Road Runners are ecncouraging the local community to get active in 2020 by joining its “Couch to 5k” programme
BTR Road Runners are organising its very first Couch To 5K training programme which starts in February. The aim is to support beginners to the sport or those keen to get back into running.
The first session will start at 6.30pm on Tuesday 18 February 2020, with the group meeting at Whitt’s End Bar on Market Street. Those who sign up for the eight-week programme will be encouraged to run twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday, with a third run planned for the weekend. Everyone taking part will be given a training plan to help assist their challenge. The final run of the programme will be the BTR Medal Muddle 5K fun run at 11am on Easter Monday 13 April at River Park in Bromborough.
The BTR Road Runners Couch To 5K programme is free, however participants are being encouraged to make a £1 donation per session which will go to good causes. Funds raised through the initiative will be split between Claire House Children’s Hospice and Leukaemia Care.
BTR Road Runner Audrey Stocker is co-ordinating the programme, and commented:
“After a hectic and stressful festive season, there is nothing better than pulling on your trainers and getting out into the fresh air for a run.
“A new year brings with it a fresh outlook and the opportunity to make a change – so this is the perfect opportunity to join BTR Road Runners for our very first Couch To 5K programme. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to those wanting to get back into running – or even those who want to join a group to run regularly.
“The programme officially starts on 18 February – but you don’t have to wait until then. Come along to sample our friendly running group any Tuesday or Thursday evening in Hoylake!”
